AdVance™ Sling

The AdVance™ Sling is an innovative, safe and minimally invasive male sling for the treatment of mild to moderate stress urinary incontinence (SUI). It is a revolutionary mechanism of action that can treat or restore normal sphincter function in incontinent men. It is suitable for men with mild to moderate stress urinary incontinence after surgery such as radical prostatectomy.

Features

The device consists of two single-use needle passers and a sling made up of synthetic mesh, with attached connectors. The mesh is made up of polypropylene and is used to reposition and support the urethra and to restore normal bladder control.

Placement and function

The sling is inserted via the transobturator approach to optimize the sphincter’s interaction with the urethra. The mechanism of the device is to restore or improve the normal urethral sphincter function by repositioning the external sphincter. After the implantation most patients are continent immediately and may resume normal, non-strenuous activities within a few days. However one needs to refrain from heavy lifting, straining, leg spread/squats and sexual activity for 6 weeks.

Procedure

The implantation is usually carried out under general anaesthesia and is usually completed in less than an hour. One perineal incision and two small groin incisions are required for insertion of the sling.
